Our Foundation
What We Believe
Primarily, Ark Church affirms the great creeds of the Christian Church as the essentials or "non-negotiables" of our faith.
The Apostles' Creed
"I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again; He ascended into heaven, He is seated at the right hand of the Father, and He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. AMEN."
Core Values
Presence
Seeking the tangible Presence of the Lord. Fostering a worship environment where God's presence can be tangibly felt during ministry.
Spirit-Led
Seeking the Holy Spirit's guidance over human strategy or "hustle."
Holiness
Pursuing holiness out of love for God, not out of legalism.
Patience
A gracious willingness to remain present with people through the slow, nonlinear process of sanctification, trusting the Holy Spirit's timing.
Gifts
Foster a fail-safe culture. One matures in exercising spiritual gifts through trial and error. The church fosters a safe environment to grow.
Unity
Strive to preserve unity in the essentials of the Gospel while offering liberty in non-essential matters.
Evangelism
Lifestyle Evangelism. A commitment to sharing the Gospel not just as a program, but as an organic, daily lifestyle.
Statement of Faith
The Inerrancy of the Bible
The Bible is the inspired, error-free Word of God and the absolute, final authority for our faith and life.
"The Holy Scriptures are profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." — 2 Timothy 3:16The Trinity
There is one eternal God who exists equally and eternally in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." — Matthew 28:19Jesus Christ
Jesus is fully God and fully man. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died a substitutionary death for us, rose bodily, and will return in glory.
"For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily." — Colossians 2:9Salvation
Salvation is a free gift of God's grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ alone, not by our own good works. True salvation always shows itself through real action — producing a deep love for God, a genuine hatred for sin, and a changed life that actively pursues holiness.
"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God." — Ephesians 2:8–9Spiritual Gifts
The supernatural gifts of the Holy Spirit are active today and are essential to build up the church and advance the Gospel.
"To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good." — 1 Corinthians 12:4–11Signs & Wonders
Based on Mark 16:17–18 and the entire book of Acts, Signs & Wonders — supernatural healing, deliverance, and more — are normal for the church today; they are the demonstration of the Kingdom that backs up the teaching of Jesus.
Diversity in Unity
Distinct from secular multiculturalism, biblical unity flows outward from our reconciliation with God, gathering all people into one organic body of worship.
"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." — Galatians 3:28The Future
We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, eternal life for the righteous, and eternal judgment for the wicked.
"An hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come out." — John 5:28–29Christian Life
We believe the life of the believer is to be separated from worldliness by consistent conduct before God and man. It is possible for the believer to lead such a life of Christ-like character when they appropriate the power and control of the indwelling Holy Spirit by faith. We also affirm the Wesleyan Quadrilateral — Scripture, Reason, Experience, and Tradition — as a helpful guiding principle for the Christian life.
Our Identity as a Church
An Interdenominational Church
Scripture defines the church as one spiritual organism comprising all believers across all ages, united to Christ by the Spirit. This reality transcends denominational boundaries. Jesus prayed that His followers would be "perfectly one" so the world would know the Father sent Him.
We Believe:
- Modern denominationalism is an "extra-scriptural phenomenon" that can hinder true worship by prioritizing group loyalties over communion with Christ.
- Unity is found in a shared doctrinal core — the Gospel and the Person of Christ — while diversity is found in the means or non-essential practices.
- Believers are encouraged to show "humble hesitancy" in letting minor differences divide them.
- Salvation is not determined by denomination or denominational traditions.
An Intercultural Church
Ark Church was established upon the profound biblical conviction that when legitimate language and geographical barriers are no longer in play, no good reasons remain for Christians to segregate from one another along ethnic or socioeconomic lines.
An intercultural ministry is a demonstration of the power of the risen Christ to bring diverse peoples together in the love and worship of one Lord. However, we do not make interculturalism itself a goal — we believe it is a natural phenomenon of fulfilling the Great Commission and being the church. The cause of human division is sin, and the Gospel is God's answer to sin through vertical reconciliation with Himself. The horizontal reconciliation of diverse peoples is the natural outworking of that vertical reconciliation done rightly.
"There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
— Galatians 3:28"After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne."
— Revelation 7:9
